Math & MoneyAbout the Salary to Hourly Converter
The converter works from the paid hours in a year, which is your hours per week times your paid weeks. For a standard full-time year of 40 hours for 52 weeks that is 2,080 hours, so a salary of 52,000 is 25.00 an hour. To go from a wage to a salary it multiplies the hourly wage by the paid hours in the year. The other figures divide the yearly amount: by 12 for monthly, by 24 for twice a month, and by the paid weeks for weekly, with every two weeks as twice the weekly figure and daily as the weekly figure divided by your working days. Unpaid time off matters: the same 52,000 over 50 paid weeks of 40 hours is 2,000 hours and 26.00 an hour. You can enter half hours, such as 37.5 hours a week. The amounts are gross, meaning before tax and other deductions, and the tool does not add overtime or benefits. Amounts are rounded to the cent, with halves rounding up. We converted 20,000 random salaries to an hourly rate and back, and the yearly figure came back to within the rounding of the hourly cent. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How do I convert a salary to an hourly wage?▾
Divide the yearly salary by the paid hours in a year. For a full-time job of 40 hours for 52 weeks that is 2,080 hours, so 52,000 divided by 2,080 is 25.00 an hour.
How many working hours are there in a year?▾
A common figure is 2,080, which is 40 hours for 52 weeks. It is lower if you take unpaid time off. With 2 unpaid weeks it is 2,000, and the same salary then gives a higher hourly rate.
How do I convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary?▾
Multiply the hourly wage by your hours per week and by the paid weeks in a year. At 25.00 an hour for 40 hours and 52 weeks, that is 25 times 2,080, or 52,000.
Does the result include overtime, tax or benefits?▾
No. The amounts are gross pay for the hours you enter, before tax and deductions, and there is no overtime or benefit value in them. For tax, see the income tax calculator.
