The Extract Numbers tool scans your input for standalone numeric sequences including integers (42, 1000) and decimal numbers (3.14, 99.99). The regular expression matches numbers that appear as whole tokens — preceded and followed by whitespace, punctuation, or string boundaries — to avoid extracting partial sequences from within words or identifiers. Negative numbers preceded by a minus sign are also captured. The extracted values are presented as a clean list along with two summary statistics: the total count of numbers found and their arithmetic sum (computed using JavaScript floating-point arithmetic). This is particularly useful for accountants pulling figures from invoice text, data analysts extracting measurements from unstructured reports, students checking numeric answers in pasted problem sets, and anyone who needs to quickly isolate numeric data from surrounding prose. Numbers embedded within words (like "abc123" or version strings like "v2.1.0") are not extracted to keep results meaningful.
Does it extract decimals and negative numbers?▾
Yes — both decimal numbers (3.14, 99.99) and negative numbers (-42, -3.14) are extracted. Numbers must appear as standalone tokens, not embedded within words.
How is the sum calculated?▾
The sum is the arithmetic total of all extracted numbers, computed using JavaScript floating-point arithmetic. Very large sums or many decimal values may show minor floating-point rounding.
Are numbers inside words (like abc123) extracted?▾
No — only standalone numbers that are separated from surrounding text by spaces, punctuation, or line boundaries are extracted. This prevents false matches from version strings, identifiers, and hexadecimal codes.
