About the SERP Preview Tool

Google search result listings do not truncate text based purely on character counts, but on container pixel width (approximately 600px for desktop titles and 960px for descriptions). Wide capital letters like "W" and "M" consume more pixels than narrow letters like "i" or "l". If your title or snippet exceeds Google's container limits, Google automatically appends an ellipsis (…) or rewrites the title altogether using on-page H1 tags or anchor text. This SERP preview tool simulates Google's rendering engine on both desktop and mobile viewports, allowing digital marketers and content creators to optimize title tags and meta descriptions for maximum organic click-through rates (CTR) before publishing.

Why does Google truncate titles by pixels instead of character count?▾

Google renders search listings using proportional fonts (Arial/Roboto). Because letters vary in width ("W" is wider than "I"), Google caps titles at ~600 pixels width rather than a strict character count. 60 characters is a safe rule of thumb, but wide characters cut off sooner.

Why is my meta description truncated in search results?▾

Desktop snippet containers accommodate roughly 155–160 characters (~960px). Mobile snippets are limited to around 120 characters or two short lines. If your description exceeds these dimensions, Google appends an ellipsis.

Does Google always use the meta description I write?▾

Not always. Google algorithms analyze user search queries and may dynamically generate a snippet from on-page body text if it believes that excerpt answers the user query more accurately than your meta description.
