By inputting each assessment category (such as Homework, Quizzes, Midterms, Projects) along with their respective percentage weights and your scored grades, the tool computes your overall weighted average. The built-in "Final Exam Target" mode calculates the minimum score required on the remaining final exam or capstone project to secure your desired course letter grade.
How do weighted grades work?▾
In a weighted grading system, different assignment categories contribute different proportions to your overall course grade (e.g., Homework 20%, Midterms 30%, Final Exam 50%). Each category score is multiplied by its weight fraction, and the sum of these products gives your final course percentage.
What if my category weights do not equal 100% yet?▾
The calculator automatically normalizes your grade by dividing the points earned so far by the total weight completed, giving you your accurate current grade at any point in the semester.
How does the final exam calculator work?▾
The calculator takes your desired course target grade, subtracts the points you have already secured in the course, and divides the remainder by the percentage weight of your final exam.
