[2 suggestions]About the GPA Calculator
The GPA Calculator converts letter grades into numerical grade point values, weighs them according to course credit hours, and calculates your exact Grade Point Average. You can toggle between unweighted grading (standard 4.0 ceiling) and weighted grading (adding 0.5 points for Honors and 1.0 point for AP, IB, or college-level classes). If you have prior semesters on your transcript, enter your previous cumulative GPA and total completed credits to calculate your new overall cumulative GPA. Everything runs locally in your browser, ensuring your academic records remain entirely private.
How does weighted GPA differ from unweighted GPA?▾
Unweighted GPA measures academic performance on a standard 4.0 scale regardless of course difficulty (where an A is 4.0). Weighted GPA awards extra weight for rigorous coursework, typically adding +0.5 quality points for Honors classes (up to 4.5) and +1.0 point for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or college-level courses (up to 5.0).
Why does A+ equal 4.0 instead of 4.3 or 4.33?▾
This calculator follows the standard United States collegiate 4.0 maximum GPA scale, where both an A and an A+ are mapped to 4.0 quality points. If your institution uses a 4.33 scale for an A+, please note that this tool currently caps unweighted grades at 4.0.
How is cumulative GPA calculated with prior semesters?▾
Cumulative GPA is calculated by taking your previous quality points (previous cumulative GPA multiplied by previous completed credit hours), adding the current semester quality points, and dividing by the grand total of completed credits.
