About the Extract URLs from Text

The Extract URLs tool applies a URL-matching regular expression to your input text, targeting strings that begin with http:// or https:// followed by a valid domain and optional path, query parameters, and fragment identifiers. The regex handles common URL components including port numbers (:8080), paths with slashes (/page/subpage), query strings (?key=value&other=123), and hash fragments (#section). Trailing punctuation like periods, commas, and closing parentheses that are commonly adjacent to URLs in prose are stripped to avoid false positives. Results are deduplicated using exact string comparison and presented as a clean one-per-line list. Content strategists use this to audit external links in article drafts, developers to extract API endpoints from documentation, and researchers to harvest reference URLs from academic papers.

Does it extract bare domains without http/https?▾

By default, the tool matches URLs starting with http:// or https://. Bare domains like "example.com" without a protocol prefix are not matched to avoid false positives with normal text.

How does it handle URLs with query strings and fragments?▾

Full URLs including query parameters (?key=value) and hash fragments (#section) are captured as complete strings. Trailing punctuation from surrounding prose is automatically stripped.

Are duplicate URLs removed?▾

Yes — exact duplicates are automatically removed. The output list contains each unique URL only once, regardless of how many times it appeared in the source text.
