Hash Generator

Enter or paste any string to compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 cryptographic hashes in real time. SHA algorithms execute natively via the browser's Web Crypto API with hardware-accelerated performance, while MD5 runs via a lightweight client-side checksum algorithm. Your input remains strictly private inside your browser.

About the Hash Generator

Cryptographic hash functions map arbitrary binary or text data into fixed-size hexadecimal digests. They are fundamental building blocks of modern computer science used for data integrity verification, password hashing, digital signatures, and commit identification in version control systems like Git. This tool computes four prominent hash algorithms simultaneously. SHA-256 (256-bit) and SHA-512 (512-bit) belong to the SHA-2 family defined by NIST in FIPS 180-4 and are industry standards for secure cryptography, TLS certificates, and blockchain consensus. SHA-1 (160-bit) and MD5 (128-bit) are older hashing algorithms that are now cryptographically broken and vulnerable to collision attacks (such as the SHAttered and Flame attacks); they must never be used for password storage or security-sensitive signatures, but remain widely used in legacy systems for file integrity checksums, cache keys, and deduplication tables. All hashing is performed directly on your device with zero server transmissions.

Is MD5 secure for passwords or digital signatures?▾

No. MD5 is cryptographically broken and vulnerable to collision attacks where two different inputs produce the exact same hash. It is provided here strictly for legacy software compatibility and file integrity verification, not for security.

How are SHA-256 and SHA-512 calculated in this tool?▾

They are computed using the browser's native window.crypto.subtle.digest() API. This executes in compiled native browser code, providing cryptographic accuracy and sub-millisecond execution without external network requests.

Does this hash generator send my input text to any server?▾

No. All text processing and hash calculation occur 100% locally in your browser memory. Your sensitive keys, passwords, and tokens are never uploaded or logged.
