Image Converter

Drop in one or several images and convert them to PNG, JPEG or WebP. Set the quality to make files smaller, add a maximum width or height to shrink big photos, and see the size of every file before and after. Your pictures are read and converted by your own browser, so they are never uploaded.

PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP and any other type your browser can open. Up to 20 files of 50 MB each.

Your images are read and converted by your own browser and are never uploaded. Redrawing a picture removes its hidden data, such as camera details and location, but it also removes animation, so a GIF becomes a single still image. Saving as JPEG or WebP loses a little detail each time, so keep your originals. Some browsers cannot write WebP and save a PNG instead, which the list tells you. Several downloads at once may need your browser's permission.

About the Image Converter

Each picture is decoded by your browser, drawn on a canvas at the size you chose, and saved in the new format. That means any type your browser can open can be converted, which usually includes PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and BMP. PNG is lossless, so it keeps every pixel and is best for graphics, screenshots and anything with transparency. JPEG is lossy and has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a color, white unless you change it. WebP is lossy with this tool and often makes photos smaller than JPEG at similar quality, although some browsers cannot write it and save a PNG instead, which the list tells you. The quality slider runs from 40 to 100 and applies to JPEG and WebP. A maximum width or height shrinks a picture while keeping its proportions and never enlarges it. Redrawing a picture removes its hidden data, such as camera details and GPS location, and an animated GIF becomes a single still frame. Converting to a lossy format loses a little detail each time, so keep your originals. You can add up to 20 files of up to 50 MB each.

How do I convert a PNG to a JPG?▾

Choose the images, select JPEG as the file type, and press Download beside each file or Download all. Transparent areas of a PNG are filled with white, or the color you pick, because JPEG cannot store transparency.

How do I make an image file smaller?▾

Choose JPEG or WebP and lower the quality, and set a maximum width or height if the picture is larger than you need. The list shows each file's size before and after, so you can see what each setting saves.

Why did my PNG get bigger?▾

PNG is lossless and stores every pixel, so a photo saved as PNG is usually much larger than the same photo as JPEG or WebP. PNG suits graphics, screenshots and pictures with transparency. Choose JPEG or WebP for photos.

Does the converter remove metadata?▾

Yes. The picture is redrawn from its pixels, so hidden data such as camera details and GPS location is not copied to the new file. An animated GIF also becomes a single still image.

Are my images uploaded?▾

No. Your browser reads and converts them, and the files never leave your device. That also means very large images are limited by your device's memory, and the tool refuses files over 50 MB.
