Image Resizer

Choose an image, pick how to resize it, and see the new picture and file size straight away. You can set a width or a height and let the other follow, scale by a percent, crop to an exact size from the center, or stretch to exact numbers. Save the result as a PNG, JPEG or WebP. Your picture never leaves your browser.

The picture is read and resized by your own browser and is never uploaded. Setting only the width or the height keeps the proportions, a crop fills an exact size by cutting equally from both sides, and stretching can distort the picture. The tool refuses to enlarge unless you allow it, because enlarging cannot add detail. Resizing writes a new file from the pixels, so camera details and location data in the original are not copied, and a GIF becomes one still frame. JPEG and WebP lose a little detail each time they are saved, so keep your original.

About the Image Resizer

There are five ways to resize. Setting the width works out the height from the proportions of the picture, so a 4000 by 3000 photo at 1000 wide becomes 1000 by 750, and setting the height does the same the other way. A percent scales both sides by the same amount. Crop to an exact size fills the size you give and cuts off what does not fit, equally from both sides: a 4000 by 3000 photo cropped to a 1000 by 1000 square keeps the middle 3000 by 3000 and then shrinks it. Stretch to an exact size uses both numbers as typed, so the picture can be squashed. Quick buttons set common widths and common shapes such as square, portrait, story and link cards. The tool will not enlarge a picture unless you allow it, because making a picture bigger adds no detail and only blurs it. Each side can be up to 8,192 pixels and the whole picture up to about 33 million pixels. The result is a new file made from the pixels, so camera details and location data in the original are not copied, and an animated GIF becomes a single frame. JPEG and WebP have a quality setting, and a smaller size and a lower quality both make the file smaller. Nothing is uploaded.

How do I resize an image without losing quality?▾

Make it smaller, not larger, and save as PNG for graphics or at a high JPEG or WebP quality for photos. Shrinking a picture keeps it sharp, while enlarging cannot add detail. Resizing always writes a new file, so keep your original.

How do I resize an image to an exact size, such as 1080 by 1080?▾

Choose Crop to an exact size, enter 1080 and 1080, or press the Square button. The tool scales the picture to cover the square and cuts the extra from both sides equally, so nothing is stretched.

What is the difference between cropping and stretching?▾

Cropping keeps the proportions and cuts off the parts that do not fit. Stretching uses your width and height exactly, so the picture can look squashed or stretched. Choose cropping for photos and stretching only when the shape does not matter.

Why does it refuse to make my picture bigger?▾

Enlarging only spreads the same pixels over more space, which makes the picture blurry, so the tool asks you to tick Allow enlarging first. If you need a bigger version of a vector logo, convert the SVG at the size you need instead.

Is my image uploaded?▾

No. Your browser reads, resizes and saves the picture, and it never leaves your device. Pictures of up to 50 MB are accepted, limited by your device's memory.
